Founding State Recruitment and Engagement?
In August, staff from the CSG Justice Center expanded their awareness, recruiting, and onboarding efforts across Justice Counts Founding and potential sites. As a result of Justice Counts conference presentations, agencies in Louisiana, Puerto Rico, and Texas made appointments with CSG Justice Center staff to start entering budget and staff data into Justice Counts Publisher, and agencies in Louisiana and Puerto Rico were able to complete their first data configuration and publishing session. Several agencies, including the Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections, Howard County Courts & Pretrial, Data4Change, the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, the Michigan State Appellate Defenders Office, and the Oakland County Sheriff?s Office, opted in to Justice Counts. Engagement in other states continued as well with conversations in Washington with the Thurston County Commissioners, in Florida with the Palm Beach County Criminal Justice Commission, and in Texas with the Texas Office of Court Administration.?
In Indiana, CSG Justice Center staff met with the Indiana Department of Corrections, the Howard County Justice Reinvestment Advisory Council, Cass County Courts and Pretrial, Community Supervision, Logansport Police Department, and Cass County Jails and Howard County Community Supervision while on site in Indiana to present at the National Council of State Legislatures Legislative Summit.?
In Iowa, CSG Justice Center staff met with the Iowa Jail Committee Chairman from Marshall County Sheriff?s Office, and the Iowa Department of Public Safety. The Justice Counts team will attend the Iowa Jail Committee conference on October 18 to connect with sheriffs and jail administrators and get them on board with Justice Counts.??
In Missouri, CSG Justice Center staff presented to the Missouri Association of Prosecuting Attorneys, which resulted in 17 agencies opting in to Justice Counts. While on site, CSG Justice Center staff also met with the Jefferson City Police Department and the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department. Prior to the site visit, CSG Justice Center staff also met with the St. Louis Circuit Attorney?s Office, the Platte County Prosecutor?s Office, the Johnson County Prosecutor?s Office and Karpel Foundation to create a statewide integration with their case management system.?
In New Mexico, CSG Justice Center staff worked with staff from the New Mexico Department of Public Safety to connect their system to Justice Counts Publisher. They also conducted onboarding with the Law Offices of the Public Defender and conducted an informational session with the statewide pretrial offices.?
In Ohio, the Fairfield County Sheriff?s Office, Community Solutions, Secure Manage, Lucas County Treatment Facility, and Northeastern Ohio Community Alternative Program all opted in to Justice Counts. This momentum is a result of a site visit to Ohio where CSG Justice Center staff presented to community corrections leaders at the International Community Justice Association Conference; presented to law enforcement, prosecution, and defense leaders from Cuyahoga County at a luncheon hosted by The Cleveland Foundation; presented to all executive directors of all the community-based correctional facilities in Ohio; and separately met with staff from Oriana House and Secure Manage. In addition to the engagement during the site visit, CSG Justice Center staff also spoke to staff from the Hamilton County Office of Reentry and the Hamilton County Sheriff?s Office, the office of the Ohio Public Defender, the City of Columbus Department of Public Safety, the Tuscarawas County Sheriff?s Office, the Franklin County Municipal Court, and the Columbus Police Department.?
Metrics Development?
In August, six of the seven subcommittees met to consider adjustments to their proposed slate of metrics. In each meeting, staff from Measures for Justice and the CSG Justice Center walked subcommittee members through a discussion of proposed changes where there was not unanimous agreement. CSG Justice Center staff also scheduled additional calls with any subcommittee members who were unable to join the meetings to ensure that their feedback was included as part of the committee?s slate.?
Justice Counts Partners?
In August, CSG Justice Center staff presented at the Correctional Leaders Association Summer Conference and conducted a focus group at the National Council of State Legislatures Legislative Summit. These presentations resulted in connections across many states and provided opportunities for CSG Justice Center staff to hone their approach for the new Justice Counts pitch.?
