The Center continues to support long-established mentor community courts across the country, including South Dallas Community Court; Orange County Collaborative Courts; Olympia Community Court; and Spokane Community Court. Center staff facilitated networking connections between mentor courts and the current community court cohort to share best practices. For example, Center staff helped connect leaders from Spokane Community Court to Luce County practitioners to build Luce County’s practices. Spokane Community Court shared materials and began conversations to coordinate a future site visit for Luce County staff.
Center staff also engaged with BJA colleagues to plan a new mentor court program to launch in 2024, through which selected mentor courts will support the Center’s technical assistance for the benefit of new court grantees. Center staff developed a framework for cohort-based group mentoring and contacted established community courts, including the four official mentor courts, inviting them to apply as mentors for the upcoming BJA community court cohort if they are interested. Ultimately, six courts applied to be a part of this program. Selection and program launch will happen in early 2024.
