On October 11 and 12, Center staff Taylor DeClerck and Shawn Rogers traveled to the 2023 Coordinator/Case Manager conference hosted by the Wisconsin Association of Treatment Court Professionals (WATCP). They delivered two presentations. First one titled "Case Management for Justice Professionals: How to lead from the front line" provided the fundamentals for comprehensive case management, how to become participant-oriented and community based, and assisting with needs outside of substance use treatment. Drawing on evidence from drug treatment court and public health fields, this presentation provided guidance to practitioners looking to advance their case management skills. The second presentation titled "Addressing Racial and Ethnic Disparities (RED) in Treatment Courts: Identifying Decision Points Through the Lens of the Adult Best Practice Standards" engaged local court coordinators and case managers in a strategic planning process that centered around improving racial and ethnic disparities (RED) and empowering practitioners to invoke change in court operations and program policies. Center staff also provided an action planning document that attendees could take back with them to help identify and initiate steps to address RED in their courts.
