On October 14, 2023, the senior policy advisor from the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), a SLATT team member, and two subject-matter experts (SMEs), delivered in-person training during a leadership track session at the IACP Conference 2023. The presentation , titled, Gun Violence Motivated by Hate: Case Reviews Reflecting Anti-Semitism, White Supremacy, and LGBTQ Attacks, consisted of a lesson from the SLATT Prepare and Ready: Executive Planning for Agencies in Response to Extremism (PREPARE) course and focused on the investigation, response, and lessons learned from two prominent targeted violence events: the May 14, 2022, Tops supermarket shooting in Buffalo, New York, and the October 27, 2018, Tree of Life Synagogue shooting in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. An overview of the SLATT Program was also provided, and QR codes were made available to attendees to access presentation resources and to provide evaluative feedback. There were approximately 150 executive level law enforcement members in attendance. Of those attendees who provided an evaluation, 100 percent were satisfied with the course, found the information useful, found the instructors knowledgeable and effective, responded that their knowledge increased, and that they would recommend the course to others.
