Presentation Title: Tech Talk: Technology in the (Rural) Fields to Reduce Crime and Enhance Investigative Capacity
Presentation Short Description: Violent crime is on the rise in many jurisdictions, including rural communities. Rural law enforcement agencies are often left to tackle these challenges while struggling to obtain the needed resources and personnel to cover sometimes expansive geographic territory. During this presentation/facilitated discussion, attendees will learn about the Rural Violent Crime Reduction Initiative (RVCRI) – a grant program focused on rural law enforcement agencies – and hear from an existing RVCRI grantee, the Franklin County, VA Sheriff’s Office, on how they have implemented and enhanced technological capabilities, including forensic software and cameras, to address the violent crime challenges occurring in its community.
Presenters: Reginald Thomas, Project Associate, National Policing Institute and Franklin County, VA Sheriff's Office
SRLEEA attendance will also be used as a marketing effort/cornerstone.
