In September, CSG Justice Center staff, along with expert consultant Dr. Sarah Desmarais, continued to work on socializing the guidelines. The project team continuously met with internal CSG Justice Center colleagues, including the Communications team, to discuss project deliverable status and development, focusing primarily on the introductory webinar presentation, webinar Communications plan, review of the self-assessment tool, and further development of the outreach strategy.
On September 14, the CSG Justice Center project team shared the draft presentation for the introductory webinar, which was originally planned for mid-October. On September 20, BJA shared feedback and edits to the presentation. Additionally, BJA recommended that the introductory webinar be pushed back to coincide with the availability of further opportunities for engagement for states. The project team discussed this recommendation and agreed with it; thus, the introductory webinar will be pushed back to January 2023.
On September 20, the CSG Justice Center project team shared with BJA the draft Communications plan for the introductory webinar, which includes the marketing language and materials, registration and event page links, social media and newsletter language, and timeline. Since the webinar will be pushed back to January 2023, the Communications plan will be updated and shared again at a later date.
The self-assessment tool, which is intended for agencies to assess the status of their post-conviction risk and needs assessment efforts in preparation for adopting the national guidelines, has begun receiving submissions. In its first month (September), the tool was started approximately 160 times, with 6 submissions fully completed and 21 submissions partially completed. CSG Justice Center staff are exploring these submissions to determine why they were partially completed. The remaining 132 visitors began the assessment but completed less than half of it.
