America’s fallen fire heroes, who died in the line of duty, are honored each year during the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend. A plaque bearing the names of honored firefighters is added to the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial. Fire Hero Families will participate in the Memorial Service where a grateful nation will honor the sacrifices of their loved ones at the National Memorial. Family attend counseling sessions on Saturday and concludes with an evening Candlelight Service. Families have the opportunities to meet other Fire Hero Families from around the country and learn they are not alone. Sunday is the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service, a formal tribute rich in fire service traditions. Members of the fire service from across the country participate in honor guard processions, assist families, and provide support with all activities. It is a weekend that reinforces the bond shared by the fire service family. The Candlelight and Memorial Services are broadcast live with viewing information posted on the National Fallen Firefighters website: weekend.firehero.org.
