I am looking to facilitate the start of a homeless/community court for St. Johns County, Florida. There is a need with the ever increasing case load of misdemeanor/ordinance violations. I observed Ft. Lauderdale's Community Court and found it to be a great idea that would have benefits for my county. Any assistance with possible grants, technical assistance or any other needed services would be greatly appreciated.

How do you anticipate that the requested assistance will address the problems?
If we are able to get the homeless/community court up and running, it will help people with substance/mental health issues get treatment rather than incarceration. It provides the needed help to the people who need it most. It would also help the courts, jails and law enforcement with overcrowding and the revolving door effect. I was inspired by the Community Court in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida after I observed the proceedings. I spoke with Judge Barner who presides over the court. Judge Barner's description of how many people they have helped and kept out of jail, was impressive. I feel that if we could have that type of court here, it would make a huge difference in lives of the homeless. Thank you for your time. Steve
