Monthly Status:
In June, CSG Justice Center staff, along with expert consultant Dr. Sarah Desmarais, continued to work on socializing the guidelines. The project team also continued to finalize the deliverables and incorporate feedback from BJA reviews, which included designing the website, drafting the website copy, finalizing an additional one-pager targeting legislators, and finalizing the promotional toolkit.
The CSG Justice Center project team held various calls with expert consultant Dr. Sarah Desmarais and advisory group members Dr. Brian Lovins, Dr. Stephen Hart, and Charles Robinson to continue discussing arranging the town hall sessions, thinking about next steps for socializing the project, and planning for the APPA conference.
Throughout the month, the project team continuously met with internal CSG Justice Center colleagues, including the Communications team, to brainstorm ideas for the risk and needs assessment guidelines project, outreach strategies, and request general feedback. CSG Justice Center staff tracked RSVPs for the invitations shared with corrections leaders, sent follow-up emails, shared a Doodle poll to track availability, and sent invitations with materials and discussion questions for the town hall sessions. Per participant availability, one town hall session was scheduled with corrections leaders.
On June 6, the CSG Justice Center project team held the second town hall session with probation and parole leaders to socialize the guidelines and get feedback. In preparation for the discussion, participants received embargoed copies of the executive summary, the full guidelines document, and the FAQ for directors. Participants were also asked to consider the following questions: What are the challenges your agency faces regarding risk and needs assessment? When implementing these guidelines, who needs to be involved? What do you consider is the best way to talk to your peers about moving this project forward? Is there anything that stands out to you or questions that arise when reading these documents? When thinking of technical assistance, of these guidelines, what have you already done, what would you like to do now, where do you anticipate the biggest implementation challenges, etc.?
On June 9, the CSG Justice Center project team shared several items for BJA review and approval. These included the project promotional toolkit, the web copy, the digital publication staging site, and an FAQ document for legislators.
On June 23, the CSG Justice Center project team held the third town hall session with probation and parole leaders to socialize the guidelines and get feedback. In preparation for the discussion, participants received embargoed copies of the executive summary, the full guidelines document, and the FAQ for directors. Participants were also asked to consider the same questions listed previously.
On June 24, Dr. Heather Tubman-Carbone (Senior Policy Advisor, BJA) confirmed approval of materials shared earlier in the month. The way web content was organized was well received, and BJA will use the same layout. The BJA Communications team is still reviewing the deliverables and will share feedback and/or approval in July.
On June 30, the CSG Justice Center project team held the first town hall session with corrections leaders to socialize the guidelines and get feedback. In preparation for the discussion, participants received embargoed copies of the executive summary, the full guidelines document, and the FAQ for directors. Participants were also asked to consider the same questions listed previously. Dr. Heather Tubman-Carbone (Senior Policy Advisor, BJA) was able to join this session.
