Michigan State University, School of Criminal Justice (MSU) received the 2018 award for Category 1 Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) Training and Technical Assistance (TTA) provider. MSU will work with CNA (Category 2) and NCVC (Category 3) throughout the grant period to provide assistance to the national PSN program, BJA, OLP, EOUSA and any other entity requesting assistance implementing PSN strategies. Efforts initiated or completed during fifth reporting period of the National PSN Category 1 award for MSU are included in this milestone. Ed McGarrell, Heather Perez, Jeff Rojek, Scott Wolfe and Chris Melde are herein known as the "MSU team".

All TTA requests, either rapid response or formal, were responded to and in support of PSN implementation plans. Formal requests required organized support for the District’s PSN team as these requests tend to be more extensive.

All seven PSN regions received TTA during the reporting period. A TTA Smart Sheet tracker is kept current and circulated by CNA among the partners and BJA. Items in the tracker come from formal TTA requests received through the https://psntta.org/tta-request-form/. Refer to the Semi-Annual report submitted by CNA for additional details.

MSU directly delivered TTA to the following districts during the reporting period from 1/1 – 6/30/2022:
- Open DOJ solicitations were shared with, all Districts, the TTA partners and the field overall to encourage multi-faceted/over-lapping violence reduction, community improvement funding and efforts.
- Items of interest such as webinars, trainings, podcasts, current literature, etc. were shared with the Districts.
- MSU coordinated with SME, Julie Wartell to continue to provide support on Crime and Problem Analysis training for the OHN/NOVCC. Julie, Sam Palmer and Christopher Bruce will deliver in person training on July 11-15. Evaluations will be completed and shared with the trainers as well as the PSN TTA Team. The training was spotlighted in the AG's Report.
- LAM indicated continued interest in the Crime Analysis plan developed by SME, Julie Wartell.
-MSU worked with the TTA Team and ILN to develop a community survey.
-MSU continued to provide TXS support on RP roles, grant writing and regional coordination.
-MSU continued to participate in monthly Liaison calls.
- MSU continued to modify the VRAT for CVI and new award. Discussions are ongoing with CNA to transfer the tool to their platform.
- MSU continued to work with Yakima/WAE and Julie Wartell to deliver Crime Analysis training and review of the YPD's newly developed Domestic Violence Database. Onsite travel will occur on July 20-22, 2022.
-MSU is developing resources based on a final report of Colorado's CGIC and RAVEN programs. A draft was shared with Kate/BJA. CNA featured the highlights in the PSN Bulletin.
-MSU is developing resources on non-fatal shooting reviews. A draft is with Kate/BJA.
-Heather Perez continued to serve as the Pacific and South Central Analyst.
-MSU continued to work with the District of Guam and Rich Hobson to fulfill the request for the Armed Offender training. MSU and BJA have discussed how to best modify the training for current administration priorities and Rich's desire to scale back his workload.
-Heather Perez provided a list of all missing FY19 GAPs and FY18 SAPs to BJA. Kate/Steve/BJA were going to work with the few remaining sites to gets completed/cleared.
-Heather Perez continued to work with BJA and EOUSA to maintain the most current PSN POC and LEC contact information.

-The MSU team continued to refine the “one-pager” on Victim/Witness guidelines. BJA and NCVC reviewed and approved the document which builds upon NCVC’s larger resources.
-The MSU team continued to assist with the development, refinement and/or maintenance of the training catalog and its contents, https://psntta.org/tta-resources/ttacatalog/.
-The MSU team continued to develop tweets, newsletter/bulletin content and webpage resources on PSN activities.
-Heather Perez gathered weekly BJA Director updates from the TTA partners for Kate McNamee's report-outs. A two-week projection is summarized for a look forward on activities, successes and innovations.
-The MSU team kept current our PSN website: https://psn.cj.msu.edu/index.html.
-Ed McGarrell continued to sit on the NIJ PSN National Evaluation review committee.
-MSU helped develop and edit the new PSN member guidebook. The Guide Book will be released post PSN National Summit.
-Ed McGarrell assisted MIE with their 2022 PSN proposal in securing a research partner.
-At the request of BJA/Kate/Steve, Heather worked with USVI and LAE to start discussions about needed TTA to get their multi-years of grant awards coordinated and implemented.
-MSU and Scott Decker responded to a request for the GAN for information on corrections-based gang renunciation programs.
-WIW/Dane County/Madison: MSU and Terry Gainer held a call with the AUSA. Multiple resources around criteria used to identify VRO/CVO and evaluation of the process/technique were shared post call. The site is reviewing the materials and will follow-up. Ed and Heather will attend and present on PSN at their next violent crime strategy meeting on June 21st.
- A team of five individuals traveled on-site for a week long (March 28-April 1)technical assistance visit with the Puerto Rico PSN team. Numerous calls were held prior to and following the site visit. A site approved TTA summary report was created. It was used to lead our TTA Team briefing with the District on Thursday, June 16th. The District has begun to pursue recommendations.
-Heather attends weekly PSN Leadership calls.
-MSU spoke with the East Lansing Journal regarding gun violence evidence-based practices.
-MSU continued to review any PSN final reports and provide a summary to BAJ/Kate.
-MSU participated in and developed Power Point slides for a Strategic planning session with BJA on January 20,2022.
-MSU provided suggestions to Kate and Laura Wykoff on PSN researchers using ATF data.
-SME, Didi Nelson continued to assist MSU and the PSN TTA Team with requests to review documents and directly support sites.
-MSU attended and contributed to the new grantee webinar.
-Heather facilitated a peer to peer exchange on community engagement between NYS and CAC.
-The Blueprints document continued to be shared with numerous districts.
-MSU significantly contributed to and participated in the PSN National Summit.
-MSU continued to attend bi-weekly team meetings.
-Ed McGarrell provided EOUSA/Brandi with language related to security of data, confidentiality, reports and publications.
-Heather connected Guam and CAC to discuss Ghost Guns.
-MSU worked with three SMEs to develop resource materials on officer retention and community engagement.
-Heather assisted GAN by providing suggestions for juvenile and/or community led programs that could be approved as a sub award by BJA.
-MSU shared DMI materials to be shared with multiple districts.
-MSU provided BJA and EOUSA with MOUs and sample language that USAOs and the PSN Teams could use for researchers and academic institutions.
-Heather Perez presented on PSN, Research Partnerships and EBP at ACJS, in Las Vegas, on March 15.
-MSU was accepted to present on PSN, Research Partnerships and EBP at ASC in Atlanta, on November 16.
-Heather connected TXW and TXN on the Better Block program.
-MSU provided guidance to Puerto Rico on applying for a CGIC grant.
-MSU assisted a colleague in Washington, Office of Firearms Safety and Violence Prevention with suggestions on RFPs to address gun violence. One of them is to provide TA/Consultation to grantees.
-Heather attended CAC's PSN comprehensive team debrief on June 28.
-MSU is assisting with planning the Winter 2023 PSN Workshops.
