The purpose of this community of practice (CoP) session was to welcome grantees to the CoP and review overall goals, structure, and expectations. Grantees were introduced to Dr. Van Dieten, Senior Advisor at CEPP and Director of the NRCJIW, and learned more about her expertise. Grantees also introduced themselves, provided details regarding their program goals/deliverables along with what they are looking forward to learning about during these CoPs. Grantees connected with one another and built rapport through responding to discussion questions from CSG Justice Center and Dr. Van Dieten, to assess where they currently are in terms of their provision of gender responsive services. Dr. Van Dieten set the foundation for this CoP by introducing the central concepts of equity and the intersectionality of gender, race, and poverty. Dr. Van Dieten set the expectation that following all four sessions of this CoP all attendees will be able to identify key next steps for strengthening gender responsive practices in their jurisdiction. A case study exercise was used to assist attendees in applying session concepts.
