Washington Department of Commerce would like to reassess and adjust their strategic planning process as Byrne JAG funds withheld during immigration litigation have been released and leadership has shifted within the agency. The agency is approaching the strategic planning process in two phases: short-term adjustments and long-term development of a new strategic plan to submit to the Bureau of Justice Assistance when applying for new Byrne JAG dollars. As part of the short-term adjustments, the agency will bring together a Byrne JAG Advisory Committee to discuss the current strategic plan and where priorities areas may have shifted. The agency will also use the landscape analysis of firearm violence currently being conducted by the Washington Office of Firearm Safety and Violence Prevention to inform these potential shifts in priority funding areas. As part of long-term development of a new strategic plan, the agency will add to its Byrne JAG Advisory Committee through recruitment efforts supported by NCJA to include non-traditional stakeholders to ensure all communities are represented in funding priority decisions and will participate in the strategic planning process to determine priorities of Byrne JAG spending moving forward.
