TTA recipients will receive training, resources, and other similar assistance to enable impacted persons to file effective complaints when attorneys and/or judges fail to uphold their ethical obligations in connection with criminal cases.
Content would focus on understanding the ethical obligations attorneys and judges have, how they are defined, and how they are applied. Primary interest is in utilizing the model rules of professional conduct to facilitate a more universal application of the content. The primary audience for the training will be community members, with the legal community as a secondary audience.
July-December 2022: Hosted monthly meetings. Developing an MOU and brainstorming ideas for a comprehensive training.
January - June 2023: Monthly meetings are ongoing. CIRN and NACDL have identified training topics related to ethics and ways to increase community trust with the criminal legal service providers. Currently planning a webinar series for the fall of 2023.
July-December 2023: Held a live CLE ethics webinar on Oct. 17, 2023, 107 registered; 56 completed the training; 4 federal employees; 52 non-federal employees; 21 surveys completed; 21 indicated knowledge level increased; 20 indicated training was useful; 20 indicated training was satisfactory or better. Meetings are still being held on a monthly basis in aniticipation of additional training and resource creation.
July-December 2024: We hosted a webinar on October 17th on the Right to Counsel. We had roughly 450 unique registrants with roughly 100 people attending the live program. The video for the program is posted [GET FROM RL]. We have completed work with this partner
