Monthly Status:
In October, CSG Justice Center staff continued extensive planning, coordination, and communication internally, with project partners, with members of the project’s National Steering Committee, and with members of the seven issue-specific subcommittees. CSG Justice Center staff worked closely with project partner Measures for Justice (MFJ) to hold the third round of subcommittee meetings focused on selecting the first group of metrics to be publicly released. Prior to the meetings, staff from MFJ and the CSG Justice Center created an agenda and materials for the meetings based on the results of the survey completed by National Steering Committee members and project partners. Each meeting included a project update and overview from CSG Justice Center staff followed by a detailed discussion of the survey results, their feasibility and utility for policymakers, as well as additional context and definitions needed to operationalize them. Meetings were facilitated by Director of Research Operations at Measures for Justice with the support of CSG Justice Center staff. In addition, CSG Justice Center staff presented on various parts of the Justice Counts project to the CSG National Board, the National Criminal Justice Association, and the Montana Legislature Law and Justice Interim Committee. CSG Justice Center staff have held several internal discussions, as well as discussions with staff from BJA and Recidiviz, to continue planning for the work to take place in Phases II and III.
New Insights:
In October, CSG Justice Center staff held several internal discussions to determine the purpose, scope, and deliverables of the national campaign. Focus was on aligning the communications strategy with the overall goals of the project, as well as the timeline of metrics development and the building of the digital infrastructure. The first part of the campaign will be aimed at gathering commitments from states to sign on to Justice Counts while providing states with different ways to demonstrate their commitment to the mission of Justice Counts.
