In January, CSG Justice Center staff continued extensive planning, coordination, and communication both internally and with project partners. CSG Justice Center staff continued to work closely with staff from Recidiviz to advance the “data scan” (also referred to as “state data”) component of the project, including (a) ensuring that the publicly available, aggregate-level data being compiled adhered to the agreed-upon framework and (b) reviewing and confirming Recidiviz’s initial findings on correctional data in all 50 states. CSG Justice Center staff also worked with leadership from the Correctional Leaders’ Association (CLA), another Justice Counts partner, to encourage corrections directors to make additional aggregate-level data available for inclusion in the Justice Counts state data scan. CSG Justice Center staff also advanced the process of developing the Justice Counts metrics by convening a number of internal discussions regarding the role, organization, and composition of the Justice Counts metrics. These conversations resulted in the development of written materials that were shared with BJA and which will be used to provide insight and direction metrics for project partners, members of the national steering committee, and the subcommittees on the development of the metrics. Finally, CSG Justice Center staff spoke with four project partners via phone or video conference. CSG Justice Center staff worked with the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) to fill the final opening for the steering committee with Chief of Police of the Springfield (Missouri) Police Department.
