Law Enforcement and a Gender Responsive Approach - This session will provide a review of gender responsive law enforcement strategies given women's different pathways to crime which are often related to substance use, trauma, mental health, relationships and economic barriers. Grantees will learn about the essential elements of a gender responsive approach to law enforcement first responders. Grantees will be encouraged to discuss this topic with session facilitators via discussion questions on whether their officers are trained on gender responsive or trauma informed principles, if they're treating men and women differently when on the scene, whether they collect Crisis Intervention Team call data by gender, etc. Grantees will also hear from officer Kim Bogucki of the Seattle Police Department on her experiences with being gender responsive, creating the If Project and gender responsive diversion programs/efforts.
