Chris is reaching out to schedule a phone call with representatives from Akron PD to gauge interest in a trauma-informed approach training in Ohio. Once a phone conversation is held, if the grantee is interested, SAKI TTA will begin working with RAINN representatives to ensure sufficient and effective planning of the training is maintained. The training might be a combination of in-person and virtual delivery depending on preference of the trainer and trainees.
Please check the box next to the following questions if the answer is 'yes'.

Chris held a great call with Lt. Whiddon and Erin Earp from RAINN to talk through trauma-informed interviewing. Akron's SAKI team is all well-trained in trauma-informed interviewing, but Lt. Whiddon expressed a need in the training for patrol officers and also other major crimes investigators that don't work directly on SAKI, but are responsible for some active and cold cases and interacting with victims. Lt. Whiddon also mentioned the possibility of statewide buy-in as a result of a task force on use of deadly force that has recently discovered a need for this type of training and interview techniques for officers involved in shootings.
Lt. Whiddon (using information from Erin and our call) will be contacting other Lt.'s in his agency but also a POC in the prosecutor's office to start conversations surrounding trauma-informed interviewing and getting a training series started up.
Chris and Lt. Whiddon chatted as part of a regular SAKI check in and discussed the training opportunity. It was decided that the best path forward was to have some of the discussions with the Cleveland event recorded and then share the recordings with Akron as they seem fit. Chris will be following up with Lt. Whiddon once the Cleveland event has taken place.
