Meeting objectives as outlined by grant
There has been substantial progress made toward achieving the goals outlined in the original grant application. In January 2014 The Moss Group (TMG) assessed the degree to which PREA standards had been integrated into existing policy and procedure. Three facilities participated in the assessment: Mayfield, Adair and Youth Development for Girls. In October 2014 TMG conducted a major training event for managers and executive staff on the topics of gender responsiveness, LGBTIQ and Training the Trainer.
Audits are being conducted every other month until May 2016. The first three audits were 100% successful.
Trauma informed care (TIC) is a priority throughout the DJJ. Ten facilities competed for six pilot programs. Trauma informed care (TIC) remains the priority throughout the KDJJ.
The University of Kentucky (UK) provided an evaluation survey to staff, parents and youth in each site to determine readiness for TIC. UK is also validating the DJJ vulnerability assessment instrument by comparing incident reports from 2013 to the present
