This training workshop was delivered at the 2020 COSSAP National Forum on March 11th. In this workshop, panelists illustrated the importance of creating a multi-level community response to children impacted by addiction. Presenters discussed efforts in their jurisdictions to intervene with children at-risk for neglect or abuse due to opioid use in their homes as well as address the needs of these children through trauma-informed care. Participants in this training will recognize the diverse needs of children of addicted parents. Identify the role of first responders when they encounter children impacted by addiction when interventions are appropriate.

CHJ trained attendees at the COAP/COSSAP National Forum in an effort to inform the field on the effects the opioid crisis has on the children of addicted parents. Because CHJ is the first responder diversion subject matter expert, it was important to ensure the attendees of the training recognize the impact of the opioid crisis on the entire family unit and what resources are available for those seeking help. This workshop relates to all of the work CHJ is doing for first responders who come in contact with individuals who have an addiction and how to handle contact with the children of addicted parents.
