The Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Police Department requested technical assistance in developing their current officer safety and wellness program. This request was transferred to a new contract.
Commissioner Danielle Outlaw joined the Philadelphia Police Department in February 2020 and has identified three pillars to drive the work of the PPD: organizational excellence, crime prevention and violence reduction and community engagement and inclusion. Under the pillar of organizational excellence, we recognize the need to take stock in the current officer safety and wellness program efforts underway, which has been in place for many years, however it is not run by the PPD directly, and does not fully encompass civilian employees.
The Philadelphia Police Department is requesting a comprehensive assessment of the organization's officer safety and wellness program. It is our request that the assessment to include:
• Determine utilization levels of the existing resources
• Identify needs and service gaps (such as peer support services)
• Implement a wellness committee internally to ensure that moving forward, the physical and mental wellness needs of personnel are addressed to improve officer safety and job satisfaction
