Due to the growth and changing demographics of our municipality - as well as the relatively inexperienced tenure of our supervisors and managers - the Tempe Police Department has recognized a great need to increase the amount of leadership and supervisory training provided to the current and future leaders of our organization.
Based on early separations and retirements, the Tempe Police Department has promoted numerous employees to various supervisory ranks within our organization. Recognizing the developmental needs of our employees, and the current and future policing needs of our community, leadership training was included as a primary goal within our organization's Strategic Plan.
Seeking to improve our supervisor's understanding and ability to engage in workgroup team building, health/wellness coaching, stress management, communicating and motivating various employee generations, the relatively new 'Blue Courage' leadership program appears to fit both our department's current and future needs.
With the above in mind, we are in need of NTTAC funding and instructor resources so that we may host several "Blue Courage: Train the Trainer" courses as well as several general "Blue Courage" training courses to become self-sustaining and be able to train our entire department according to the "Blue Courage" curriculum. Moreover, it will position the Tempe Police Department to become a regional leader in this type of training and become a resource to NTTAC, Blue Courage, and our neighboring agencies who would like to implement this type of training for their organizations.
