The Ohio-N PSN site is experiencing issues with victim and witness intimidation and wants to host an initial meeting in late-February. We have confirmed February 21st at the training date with a training length of 90 minutes. The initial training will provide law enforcement with an overview of victim-witness intimidation and provide a victim-centered approach to interviewing and responding to witnesses. Further, the site requested an additional training later in the year in which these topics will be discussed in significant detail over a one to two day training. At the initial meeting, NCVC will be co-presenting with Darlene Averick, who will serve as a subject-matter expert. Darlene is a Program Manager with the Victim Witness Assistance Program at the ATF and will be engaging with the audience throughout the presentation to determine issues law enforcement is experiencing in their respective jurisdictions. The information gathered at the initial meeting will be used to inform and shape the full training that will be provided later in the year and tailored to specific site-needs. We are unsure of the number of attendees but estimate that there will be roughly 40-50 people in attendance. Audience members include U.S. attorney’s offices, law enforcement, and victim service providers from eight cities in attendance including Akron, Canton, Cleveland, Elyria, Lorain, Mansfield, Toledo, and Youngstown.
