Presenters provided best practice recommendations and strategies to protect children and to help prevent trauma at the time of parental arrest. Resources were shared to assist law enforcement agencies in developing, enhancing and implementing a safeguarding children of arrested parents policy.

The discussion will include:

• Successes and challenges in implementing a children of arrested parents policy in a major city police department
• Tips and tactics that can be used to minimize trauma to children of arrestees
• An overview of trauma-informed approaches for law enforcement to curtail disruptions to children at the time of parental arrest
