The Orlando, Florida Police Department requested a peer exchange site visit with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg, North Carolina Police Department to observe their real-time crime center. BJA NTTAC provided travel support for five representatives from Orlando PD to attend the site visit from October 3-4, 2019 in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The Orlando Police Department recently under went a reorganization to better allocate resources. Included in the reorganization is the creation of a Crime Center (RTCC). I am the project manager overseeing the creation of the Crime Center and have been researching best practices in an effort to recommend the best course of action towards out implementation. We have completed several regional site visits in an effort to obtain best practice information while keeping interoperability in mind. A brief meeting with BJA Staff (Cornelia Sigworth) whom was recently in Orlando identified several other exemplar agencies recommended for site visits (Charlotte, New Orleans, Chicago). We are seeking assistance in coordinating and funding these site visits.

An additional TTA is being completed regarding several reviews and presentations also recommended in our meeting with BJA Staff. I would like to share with BJA NTTAC that our agency goal is to complete a thorough process while conducting both implementation and process evaluations with our university partner. We hope to be a model agency with regards to Crime Center implementation and hope to provide assistance to other agencies in the future.
