The Orlando, Florida Police Department (PD) requested an assessment of its crime analysis unit. IDEA Analytics was selected to fulfill the request and provided a review of Orlando PD's current workflow/workload as it relates to the crime analysis unit. The assessment occurred in September 2019 and involved interviewing stakeholders and Orlando PD leadership to understand goals for data-driven policy. IDEA Analytics delivered a comprehensive final report to Orlando PD in September 2019.
Overall UCR Violent Crime is on the rise over the past 2 UCR reporting periods. The 2017 UCR Violent Crime total was 2135 and the 2018 total was 2287. Further analysis has revealed that UCR Violent Crime within the City of Orlando is concentrated in specific areas. As part of our current Crime Center implementation plan, an analysis was completed to determine what our current crime problem is in each patrol division with regards to resource allocation, in an effort to provide more succinct information about locations, people, and groups that may be the root cause of the determined crime problem. Each Patrol Division was found to have the majority of both its property and violent offenses occurring in concentrated areas or zones or bordering these zones. These zones consume much of our available personnel resources. These concentrated areas/zones encompass areas included within 7 of the City’s 13 Opportunity Zones.
