Greeted at the St. Louis County DJS facility by Sean Rhode, Sr Program Analyst, and Ken Korpecki, Supt. who provided a tour of the facility and introduced me to commanders and personnel throughout the 3rd floor. Joined by Nancy McCarthy, former regional administration of probation, and Ray Lin, the grant funded case manager for a meeting regarding the project.? A map of the region?in the room provided graphic illustration for the various municipalities involved, transportation and logistical challenges presented.
Able to observe Judge Burton's domestic violence compliance court and was then invited to his chambers for introductions. He facilitated a brainstorming conversation with the team about how to provide additional services and programming. On the way to court, was introduced to Judge Reno, who presides over the municipal?courts.?
Met with the team and asked them what they would do differently if they were to start over, and received the following responses:? 1) would implement sooner;? 2) would have better timing for their information session, which was held near the holidays; 3) would set up an information sharing app; 4) during the community meeting would define why we are doing this; and 5) would have more of a research approach from the onset.? In the future, hope to incorporate financial literacy for the participants and plan to expand to the behavioral health treatment court.?
