The Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice, Treatment Unit Administrator, Diana Kucera, has identified that agency medical and mental health staff are in need of training to meet PREA Standard 115.35 " Specialized training: medical and mental health". Ms. Kucera has requested an eight-hour training for these staff as well as a training-for-trainers to be able to provide future trainings, as needed, at each of Illinois DJJ facilities.
The PRC has assigned Linda McFarlane, MSW, JDI Deputy Executive Director, and Tara Graham, JDI Senior Program Director to develop a one-day, eight-hour specialized training for 40-50 medical and mental health practitioners. The interactive training will focus primarily on the requirements of PREA standard 115.35, incorporating relevant Illinois DJJ policies and procedures. The next day, Ms. McFarlane and Ms. Graham will conduct a one-day, eight-hour training-for-trainers for approximately 10 agency staff. Ms. McFarlane and Ms. Graham will use the specialized training curriculum and trainer notes to guide the session.
