Arlington, Texas Police Department (APD) was chosen to serve as one of three pilot law enforcement agencies to obtain customized officer safety and wellness technical assistance under BJA's VALOR Initiative. The National Police Foundation (NPF) team will provide intensive technical assistance during all phases of planning, implementation, and evaluation. NPF, with the assistance of APD and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), will conduct a comprehensive review of APD's Officer Safety and Wellness program and peer-to-peer support policies/procedures to ensure best practices and evidence-based standards are incorporated into the program. In addition, NPF staff and SMEs will review APD's Officer Safety and Wellness curriculum being developed by APD to be delivered at in-service training for all officers to ensure best practices and standards are included. The desired outcome is to further enhance and develop APD's existing officer safety and wellness trainings, activities, and goals.
