Maricopa County, Arizona Sheriff's Office Criminal Intelligence Division requested assistance to conduct a survey assessment of the unit to determine any deficiencies and strengths. The requestor withdrew the request.
Since 1998, various personnel within the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office have attempted to enhance and advocate for crime and intelligence analysis capabilities throughout the agency. Unfortunately, over this time frame, we have only had limited success in convincing administrators and others the importance of crime and intelligence analysis within law enforcement. As a result, we do not have many proponents available in a position that can provide support for our efforts in providing crime and intelligence analysis services. The Units have had limited success with the available resources and structure, but the Division is looking to restructure the analyst effort and move forward to build a strong crime analysis and investigative effort within the Office.

After talking to BJA contractor, Lorie Velarde, about our issue, she recommended contacting BJA NTTAC and submit a TTA request for assistance. After reading some of the documentation for Crime Analysis on Demand, we think the BJA might be able to convince MCSO staff of the importance for pursuing and supporting the crime analysis function.
