The Whittier, California Police Department requested a crime analysis assessment. OnPoint Analytics was selected as the provider for this engagements and assisted Whittier PD with establishing a crime analysis unit by assessing their analytical needs, evaluating the training needs of the newly hired crime analyst, identifying technical gaps, and providing analytical strategies to reduce crime and improve quality of life for Whittier and Santa Fe Springs residents.
The Whittier Police Department is in the process of hiring a full-time crime analysis. This position has been vacant for almost 10 years. We are looking to develop a successful blueprint for how a crime analysis unit can be beneficial to all facets of the organization while also acting as an education tool to the two communities we serve. I have been tasked with developing this roadmap for CAU and have little experience in this field and no education in regards to it. I believe guidance and collaboration from Annie Mitchell and OnPoint Analytics will not only help provide guidance in the development of our program but can also provide a vision and roadmap to obtaining lofty goals we have for our crime analysis unit. This roadmap could also be used for future hiring and further development of the unit. This partnership would only be able to occur through the great program BJA NTTAC offers.
Community-based organizations would include neighborhood watch groups as we want to educate the public with current trends and how to protect themselves from being victims.
