Description of the Problem

The Las Vegas Municipal Court (LVMC), through a grant from the JAG, has developed and implemented a pretrial assessment tool. We are now looking to expand our research into other pretrial-related areas, including examining different types of court reminders, the timing of court reminders and whether different types and/or timing of court reminders affect different demographic groups &/or those charged with certain types of crimes differently. Unfortunately, the LVMC does not have a case management system that can accurately and reliably provide us with the data and/or reports necessary to for such examinations.

How do you anticipate that the requested assistance will address the problems?
Receiving technical assistance from someone with whom we can consult on data-related issues and who can analyze our data will provide us with accurate and reliable information to determine if our services are having the intended result(s). Providing evidence that individuals released pretrial will return to court and can stay out of trouble with allow us to convince stakeholders to expand our pretrial services so that more individuals are provided with the opportunity for release.

Additional Info

The LVMC is in the process of creating a new case management system (eCourt) but that is not scheduled to go live until September 2019. In the meantime, many of our innovative, evidence-based ideas may have to be put on hold if we can't obtain assistance.
