Request assistance in evaluating our current system and to look at making system alterations, for a reduction in FTA's that are generated for individuals that are released from the Jefferson County, AL Jail.
1. Improved options to provide information to the individuals bonding out of jail.
2. Options to update technology to alert individuals to court dates.
3. Looking at other ways to reduce FTA's --Pre-diversion options.
Problem: Large amounts of FTA's, not related to a pretrial services program, are overwhelming the Jefferson County, AL Sheriff's Department. The Sheriff's Department is receiving large groupings of FTA's, from an understaffed Clerk's office, creating conflicts with serving warrants on cases. Individuals with the FTA's are reporting issues in obtaining court appearance dates from the Clerk's office which requires them to call one number to obtain their court date. Delays in entering data into the system prevent a significant portion of individuals that bond out of county jail in obtaining their court dates. This delay, as well as no ability for data systems to communicate between the Sheriff's Department and the Clerk's office, has resulted in overwhelming a stressed system and resulted in individuals returning to the County jail.
