The North Carolina CJPA attended the Institute for State Criminal Justice and Public Safety Executives, co-hosted by the National Governors Association and National Criminal Justice Association on December 14-15, 2017 in Charleston, SC. Participants were presented with an overview of the Strategic Planning TTA Project, and learned of ways the CJPA and SAA can work collaboratively for CJS plannig and program implementation. In addition, the North Carolina SAA was informed about training and technical assistance available under the Strategic Planning TTA project when interviewed by NCJA staff on November 16 about programs in the state funded by Byrne JAG in 2016 (as part of the NCJA's biennial study of Byrne JAG), and again during a conference call of Southern member SAAs, held May 9, 2018.
On February 15, 2018, a formal request was received from the NC SAA about the regional trainings. The SAA specifically asked if at least one of the events could be held in conjunction with the NCJA Forum as travel out of state was challenging to gain approval, but the Forum had already been approved. The TTA Program manager reached out to the SAA to confirm that the 2nd Regional Training event will be held on the 2 days immediately following the Forum; tentatively scheduled for July 26 - 27, pending BJA approval. On March 27, the TTA Program Manager coordinated with the with the SAA for attendance at the regional training. The SAA was interested in attending but needed first to confirm agenda, learning objectives, expenses and potential for reimbursement prior to scheduling travel. On April 6, the TTA Program manager contacted the NC SAA contacted with information about the upcoming Strategic Planning training to be held in Tampa, FL end of April. Follow up communications were made regarding the content, structure of the training and schedule of events. On May 4, 2018 the SAA submitted request for more information regarding registration, agenda and materials necessary for participation in DFW strategic planning training event. The NC CJCC attended the CJCC convening - JMI Network meeting in Salt Lake City, UT on July 27, 2018. The NC SAA attended the regional statewide planning hosted in Ft. Worth, TX July 25-26, 2018.
TTA is ongoing.
On February 15, 2018 the NCJA received a request from the NC SAA for information related to three regional strategic planning trainings being offered in 2018 (Tampa in April, Ft. Worth in July, and Minneapolis in September). Specifically, the SAA Director asked if at least one of the events could be held in conjunction with the NCJA Forum as travel out of state was challenging to gain approval, but the Forum had already been approved. The NCJA Program Manager confirmed tht the second two-day regional training would indeed be held on July 25-26, immediately following the 2018 National Forum on Criminal Justice, with both events held at the same location.
On May 27, the NCJA coordinated with the SAA regarding attendance at the regional trainings, and the SAA indicated an interest in attending, but needed to confirm the agenda, learning objectives, expenses and potential for reimbursement prior to scheduling travel.
On April 6, formal invitations were sent to SAAs about upcoming strategic planning training to be held in Tampa at the end of April. Follow-up communication was made regarding the content, structure of the training and schedule of events. On May 4, the NC SAA submitted request for more information regarding registration, agenda and materials necessary for participation in the Ft. Worth strategic planning training event to be held immediately after the National Forum on Criminal Justice in late July. General inquiries about the TTA training opportunities and availability of space in regional training were made on May 9. On the same date, the NC SAA participated in the Southern Regional Call. This call included a BJA update on COAP grants and needs across region related to opioid crisis, as well as updates about the strategic planning TTA project, government affairs, and a discussion of local needs.
On July 25-26, 2018, the NC SAA team attended the two-day regional training in Ft. Worth, Texas.
