The Center will convene a community and practitioner roundtable on June 19, 2018, titled “Community Perceptions of Fairness.” Roundtable participants will review and discuss preliminary results from the two-site study funded under this award in Cleveland, OH and Newark, NJ. The roundtable will be structured in two parts. The morning session will include community members and leaders from local academic, faith-based, and other community-based institutions; the afternoon session will include justice system leaders such as judges, prosecutors, law enforcement, and public defenders. The goals for the roundtable are to share results from the two-side study; to generate ideas for ways to improve community interactions with the justice system; and to generate lessons for the field about how to convene productive discussions about perceptions of fairness, with the ultimate goal of improving public trust and confidence in justice.
