Outreach about the Strategic Planning TTA program during several events attended by state agencies. At the two-day Institute for State Criminal Justice and Public Safety Executives, co-hosted by the National Governors Association (NGA) and the National Criminal Justice Association (NCJA) in December, 2017, SAAs participated in a breakout session in which participants were given an overview of the TTA progra and learned of ways that CJPAs and SAAs can work collaboratively towards CJS plannig and program implementation. Outreach was also made during a conference calls with member SAAs from western states on December 19, 2017 and again on January 22, 2018. Schedules and content for three regional strategic planning trainings were also discussed on the latter call. The TTA Project Manager received an inquiry from the Montana SAA on April 13, 2018 about the agendas and proposed audience or learning objectives for each of the planned Strategic Planning training events. The team attended the regional statewide training held in Ft. Worth, TX on July 25-26, 2018.

The Montana SAA made a formal request for Byrne JAG strategic planning training and technical assistance on April 13, 2018. The SAA sought information about the agendas and proposed audience or learning objectives for each of the planned Strategic Planning training events. The MT SAA team attended the second regional training event, held July 25-26 in Ft. Worth, TX immediately following the 2018 National Forum on Criminal Justice. The purpose of this training was to provide SAAs with hands-on TTA on the elements of effective strategic planning, data analysis for policy and program evaluation, implementation of evidence-based practices, and coordination with other components of the criminal and juvenile justice system in order to meet the FY2019 requirement of a comprehensive statewide strategic plan as detailed in the Justice for All Reauthorization Act. The NCJA hosted this regional training in partnership with with the NGA, the National Association of Counties (NACo), and SEARCH.
