Questions?

Submitted by Janene Scelza on

On September 12, 2017, the Nebraska Crime Commission contacted a Senior Policy Advisor at NCJA to request with a Tier 1 TTA request. (Tier 1 support involves less intensive problem-solving response that include deliver of information through email, telephone, document dissemination and referral to websites or other resources). The Senior Policy Advisor referred this request to the Program Manager. Resources about the TTA program and a link to the online TTA request form were provided on October 28. The NCJA followed up with the SAA on October 31 for preliminary discussion of state need. A planning call with the SAA partners was held on November 2 to discuss prior efforts and the plan to host a series of meetings in November, December and January. The SAA said it would like NCJA to review the new strategic plan after it had been drafted. Follow-up was conducted on November 26 and again on January 8 regarding progress on developing an action plan. The state had begun work on identifying priorities and would be drafting its goals soon. The SAA would follow up later in the spring as they began to draft its plan.

The state's CJPA attended the 2017 Institute for State Criminal Justice and Public Safety Executives, held Decembe 14-15 in Charleston, SC. During this event, the NCJA provided an overview of this TTA program and discussed ways in which the CJPA and SAA can work collaboratively for CJS plannig and program implementation. The NCJA Program Analyst also reached out to the SAA on December 18 to schedule a phone interview about Byrne JAG investments in the states as part of the Association's biennial study of Byrne JAG Investments. Information about the TTA program was provided during this call as well.

Follow-up communication was made with the Nebraska SAA on January 8, 2018 regarding progress on development of action plan Nebraksa had begun work on identification of priorities and drafting goals, and requested follow up TTA later in the spring as they began to draft their plan. The NCJA contacted the SAA with an invitation to attend the first of three regional strategic planning trainings, to be held in Tampa in late April (the SAA did not attend). Follow-up communication was made regarding the content, structure of the training and schedule of events. On May 4, the NCJA began collaborating with the SAA to plan for attendance at July regional training. On May 7, the NCJA discussed with SAAs the items within JAG plans that will be reviewed and enhanced through regional training. The SAA would like to bring their VOCA plan as well so that they can update and review.
