On October 16, 2017, the New York State administering agency (SAA), along with a local stakeholder, reached out to the National Criminal Justice Association (NCJA) to request assistance with a behavioral health data collection project. The team was seeking information about data systems used in other states. On October 18, the NCJA conducted an initial evaluation of TTA needs and provided the corresponding informational materials. A conference call was held with the SAA team on October 20 to discuss specific needs, review behavioral health data in states where it is collected and used in planning. On October 30, the NCJA provided online access to mental health data reports and sample analytical tools. A link to a summary report of planning efforts and use of mental health data in criminal justice system plans was provided.
On November 26, NCJA staff interviewed the SAA related to how the state invested Byrne JAG funds in calendar year 2016 (as part of the NCJA's biennial study of Byrne JAG). During the interview, the SAA was provided with information about the strategic planning TTA program and assistance available to help states comply with the new Byrne JAG planning requirements. This information was provided again during the Northeast Regional Call held May 23, 2018 in which the SAA participated. NCJA staff also discussed schedules and agendas for regional SAA strategic planning trainings to be held later in the year in Ft. Worth and Minneapolis. The SAA team participated in the latter, an advanced regional training, held September September 24-25 in Minneapolis. TTA is on-going.
