In connection with NACDL’s pretrial training and technical assistance in New Jersey we are producing training videos to support our previously published pretrial release manual and live training that were made pursuant to this grant.
Bonnie Hoffman coordinated with Jennifer Sellitti (NJ PD Office) and Alex Shalom (ACLU of NJ) to develop the content and format of the videos designed to educate public defenders and court appointed counsel about bail in New Jersey. The video training will build off of the trainings that were conducted in Gibbsboro (12/14/2016), Trenton (12/15/2016), and Newark (12/13/2016).

In support of NACDL’s commitment to address pretrial release issues, NACDL arranged for Jennifer Sellitti, New Jersey’s Office of the Public Defender’s Director of Training and Communication, and Alexander Shalom, Senior Supervising Attorney at the ACLU-New Jersey to record two videos at NACDL’s office on February 28, 2018. These videos represent the final portion of the grant deliverable for this jurisdiction.
One video provided an overview of bail reform efforts and the second focused on the defender’s role and responsibilities in representing defendants in pretrial bail proceedings. The videos complement NACDL’s New Jersey bail manual and live trainings conducted earlier in this grant process. The videos are in the process of being edited and will be published by the end of September 30, 2018.
