Questions?

Submitted by Janene Scelza on

On November 14, 2017, the Idaho SAA reached out to the NCJA Director of Government Affairs to discuss local needs. The NCJA Program Manager followed up the next day to provide information about the TTA program and services we provide to help states meet the strategic planning requirements under the new Byrne JAG solicitation. The discussion focused on the state's needs and ways in which the TTA program can support the SAA's efforts to develop a comprehensive plan.

Idaho's criminal justice policy advisor (CJPA) attended the 2017 Institute for State Criminal Justice and Public Safety Executives held December 14-15, 2017 in Charleston, SC. At this event, NCJA provided an overview of the TTA program and learned of ways the CJPA and SAA can work collaboratively for criminal justice system planning and program implementation.

Idaho's SAA participated in two conference calls for SAAs from the western region held on December 19, 2017 and January 22, 2018. During these calls, SAA member benefits were discussed, as well as and resources available under this TTA program. In the second regional call, participants discussed the delay to 2017 JAG funds, and requirements for the 2018 and 2019 Byrne JAG RFPs. There was also further discussion about the National Forum in July and opportunities available to SAAs for networking and training.

On April 6, 2018, NCJA staff contacted the SAA about the upcoming Strategic Planning training to be held in Tampa, FL end of April. Follow-up communication was made regarding the content, structure of the training and schedule of events. On April 9, NCJA staff coordinated with the the HI SAA about onsite logistics and reservations for the upcoming Strategic Planning training in Tampa, FL, which the SAA attended on April 26-27. In addition on April 9, the SAA participated in the Western Regional Call, which included a listening session with BJA regarding opioid crisis and release of new CARA/COAP Grant funds. Participants were also notified about scheduled regional strategic planning training events, government affairs updates, and other information about JAG.

The ID SAA team has attended four regional trainings: April 26-27, 2018 in Tampa FL; July 25-26, 2018 in Ft. Worth TX; September 24-25, 2018 in Minneapolis, MN; and March 14-15 in Newington, CT.

TTA is ongoing.
